Jon Kelly, 2020 ChairJon-square_mono

Jon has been at Wood for Trees for 10 years, having previously headed up the analytical side of the business, he took on the role of Deputy MD in 2018. This means he’s responsible for the delivery of all their analysis, models, reports and systems across our client base.

His focus is on helping organisations improve the ways in which they use their data by delivering timely and relevant insight – in a way that’s easy to digest and act upon. Before Wood for Trees, Jon enjoyed a healthily diverse variety of employment paths including teaching and establishing his own successful travel business (he also did a bit of analysis along the way). Jon held the position of Insight SIG Treasurer from 2018 – 2019 before becoming Chair for 2020.

Symon is a passionate fundraising professional with over 13 years experience working in the not-for-profit sector. Currently Head of Individual Giving at Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust,  he works in partnership with Fundraising and Technology teams to enable strategic decision making which maximises net income, enables growth of the supporter base and ensures communications are relevant, tailored and timely. He does this through expert knowledge of fundraising systems (including five years experience working with Salesforce), delivering evidence based insights and offering campaign delivery support.

Rob is Deputy Fundraising Director – Data, Planning and Insight at Greenpeace UK.

Stephen Lavery, Treasurer

Stephen has worked in Research and Insight Roles for the last 12 years, previously working with FMCG clients and UK retailers with the last 3 years in the not-for-profit sector. He currently heads up the Research Insight team at Macmillan Cancer support, leading delivery of qualitative and quantitative insight work focused around service and fundraising innovation, brand & creative testing, customer understanding and research synthesis.

After eight enjoyable years as Age UK’s dedicated insight analyst Stuart set up DM Insight, a data strategy and analysis service specialising in the charity and  not-for-profit sector.  Since launching in 2008 he has delivered data insight and fundraising strategy projects for over 30 NfPs including Oxfam, Tate, British  Red Cross, the Barbican, British Heart Foundation, Bible Society, RNIB, Scope, Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Christian Aid.  Fundraising, database and analysis  professionals from over 80 different charities and fundraising agencies have attended his training courses.

Nick has extensive fundraising experience, strong analysis and strategic planning skills, and is a natural communicator. He is experienced in leading change, integrating teams, developing organisational culture, and delivering results through rigorous strategic analysis. Comfortable client-side or in-house, with exposure to both large, established organisations and rapid growth start-ups, and experience in the commercial (both privately held and publicly listed), public and “third” sectors.

Nick’s specialist areas are:  CRM, Innovation and New, Product Development, Culture and Change Management, Merger Due Diligence (Pre) and Integration (Post), Project (PRINCE2), Programme and Portfolio Management, Risk management, Charity Governance.

Steve is a data analysis specialist who solves complex data problems that provide the quality information necessary to move organisations forward. His ability to draw remarkable and revealing insights from fresh analysis has influenced business decisions at board level in organisations such as British Airways, Eurostar and leading UK charities.


Lotte Buckley – Committee MemberLotte New

Lotte joined Wood for Trees in 2010. She provides the vital integration between clients and the analysis teams at Wood for Trees. Working with several of our key clients, Lotte ensures that everyone on both sides of the client: supplier axis is working to achieve the same ends.

Roger Lawson – Committee Member

Roger Lawson is a fundraising consultant who helps large and small charities to understand and inspire individual supporters. Roger believes that insight should must drive everything! He loves speaking with donors in research groups and analysing data to find the unique, golden emotions that drive donor loyalty. And then using that insight to help create inspiring and engaging donor experiences and journeys.

Recently Roger founded About Loyalty, which enables charities to measure how inspired their donors are. In addition to being on the committee of the Insight in Fundraising SIG, Roger is also a founding committee member of the IOF’s new Donor Experience SIG, an advisor to Professor Adrian Sargeant’s Relationship Fundraising study and led on the measurement project for the Commission on the Donor Experience. He is also a Trustee and volunteer for international and local organisations, a kids’ football coach and a cub leader. Dyb dyb dyb!

Katie spent over 18 years in the Advertising and Marketing world, both in project management & creative services and later in creative recruitment. In a complete change of direction she started working for the Special Interest Group in Jan 2015 managing all communications plus the coordination and management of all the SIG’s events.
