Nick Mason, 2017 Chair 

NIck Mason

Nick has extensive fundraising experience, strong analysis and strategic planning skills, and is a natural communicator. He is experienced in leading change, integrating teams, developing organisational culture, and delivering results through rigorous strategic analysis. Comfortable client-side or in-house, with exposure to both large, established organisations and rapid growth start-ups, and experience in the commercial (both privately held and publicly listed), public and “third” sectors.

Nick’s specialist areas are:  CRM, Innovation and New, Product Development, Culture and Change Management, Merger Due Diligence (Pre) and Integration (Post), Project (PRINCE2), Programme and Portfolio Management, Risk management, Charity Governance

Bob Francis, Co Vice Chair

Bob Francis has been working in insight for charities for over 10 years. He has worked in several leading charities including CRUK and is presently heading up the insight function at the NSPCC.



Jonathan Moxham, Co Vice Chair
Jon Moxham thumbnail

Jon heads up the British Red Cross Business Intelligence team and has been with the Red Cross for nearly 9 years and prior to that worked at the UK’s biggest charity – Cancer Research UK. Jon is an expert in all things related to the use of data and supporter insights and has helped increase the British Red Cross income by many millions of pounds through the intelligent use of targeting, segmentation, analysis and reporting.

Lorna Barton-Nicol, Treasurer

Lorna Barton-Nicol is a Database Officer at MS Society and has been working with charity data for around 5 years. Lorna uses supporter segmentation, propensity modelling and insights to maximise the impact of fundraising and campaigning activities. Lorna also likes to cut down the time she spends on repeated activities by automating processes and using the internet of things.

Lee Gisbourne

Lee Gisbourne

Lee is a marketing and data professional with over 12 years experience. Lee is has spearheaded an insight led approach to marketing and supporter relationship management at the RNLI which has seen them dramatically improve the understanding of their supporter base, leading to better engagement and increased the potential Lifetime Value of supporters.

 Stuart McCoy, Training Development

After eight enjoyable years as Age UK’s dedicated insight analyst Stuart set up DM Insight, a data strategy and analysis service specialising in the charity and  not-for-profit sector.  Since launching in 2008 he has delivered data insight and fundraising strategy projects for over 30 NfPs including Oxfam, Tate, British  Red Cross, the Barbican, British Heart Foundation, Bible Society, RNIB, Scope, Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Christian Aid.  Fundraising, database and analysis  professionals from over 80 different charities and fundraising agencies have attended his training courses.

David Cole


David has over 25 years’ experience as a direct marketing and latterly research professional. As The Head of Database Marketing for the Telegraph he launched the UKs first newspaper reader panel. For the last 10 years David has used practical research to help the direct marketing industry working with trade bodies such as the DMA, IDM and IPM and specialises in data protection research. David is research champion for the Institute of Fundraising’s Insight SIG.   In 2014 fast.MAP in partnership with OPT-4 developed and launched the widely acclaimed Data Permission Benchmark.


Jenny Turner, PR & Communications
Jenny Turner

Founder and managing director of Turner PR, a niche communications agency for the third sector and its suppliers with a particular focus on fundraising development. Having specialised in this area for over ten years working with leading sector trade bodies, consultancies and not-for-profit organisations, Jenny lends experience and understanding in supporting the SIG’s communications needs. uk.linkedin.com/in/jennyturnerpr/


Michael Livingstone

Mikey Livingstone, Assistant Treasurer

Since leaving the corporate business side, working for amongst others, Mecca Bingo and Marks and Spencer, Mikey has worked as an analyst for some of the larger charities, including Amnesty International UK, Barnardo’s, NSPCC and The Children’s Society. He helps develop segmentation, lifetime value analysis and propensity modelling.


 Mark Langdon

Mark has worked within various industries including advertising and retail and has been working with data in the charity sector for over 10 years. Mark is currently managing the Fundraising Insight Unit at RNIB having previously worked at Action for Blind People.



Lotte New
Lotte Buckley, Events Assistant

Lotte joined Wood for Trees in 2010. She provides the vital integration between clients and the analysis teams at Wood for Trees. Working with several of our key clients, Lotte ensures that everyone on both sides of the client: supplier axis is working to achieve the same ends.

Anita is an experienced database marketing professional with nine years experience of providing data analysis, solutions to data problems, targeted data selections and database expertise to several teams at both Alzheimer’s Society and Barnardo’s. Grant Hecht
Grant Hecht6

Following his degree in Applied Statistics from The University of Cape Town in South Africa, Grant worked as a Consultant Statistician on a number of projects ranging from the medical sector; analysing cancer treatments to the trades industry; where he optimised the service capacity within the MOT sector.

As a director of Marketing Metrix Grant heads up a large data and analytics team, responsible for developing customer databases, and carrying out in-depth analytics for some of the largest brands in the UK across a variety of sectors including charity, financial and retail

He has been key in the development of a number of proprietary tools such as Citizen (a geo-demographic segmentation tool), PollenUK (the UK’s largest datapool), a variety of industry bespoke models that forecast sales & predict peoples response behaviour, and industry specific segmentation systems.

He is competent in an array of programming tools, including SAS, SQL, SPSS, faststats, Tableau and many CRM systems.

Grant is an avid traveller, and when not at work, or at the gym, is usually off exploring mainland Europe or the rest of the world.

Katie Straker, Communications Consultant & Events Manager

Katie spent over 18 years in the Advertising and Marketing world, both in project management & creative services and later in creative recruitment. In a complete change of direction she started working for the SIG in Jan 2015 managing all communications plus the coordination and management of all the SIG’s events.
